The UW Tacoma Campus Safety and Security Department are proud to announce that we will be conducting RAD self-defense classes for students, faculty, staff and community members. RAD is a program taught by universities and police departments throughout North America, Europe, Korea, and has been in existence for over 20 years. You can visit their website at www.rad-systems.com to learn more about the program.
We are offering two RAD programs listed below:
- Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) for Women
- Resisting Aggression with Defense (RAD) for Men
RAD provides effective options by teaching men and women to take an active role in their own self-defense and psychological well-being. As well, you receive a lifetime return and practice policy. This enables you to return anywhere this course is offered for free, for the rest of your life.
In just two classes for six hours you will learn:
- what an attack can resemble
- sexual assault awareness and avoidance techniques
- how not to resemble a victim
To successfully complete the class all you have to do is attend all 12 hours. You do not have to do anything that you are not comfortable with. RAD is not a Martial Arts program. It teaches realistic self-defense movements which require neither special skills nor years of practice to master.
Classes have a maximum enrollment of 12 attendees. Registration for RAD for Men and RAD for Women closes January 31, 2012. Our staff will notify you by email on Wednesday February 1, 2012 for room location. If registration is less than 4 participants then the class will be cancelled. Cost for classes is $5 for the RAD booklet.
