Dear Members of the UW Tacoma Community,

We are excited to announce the launch of the UW Tacoma Strategic Budget Committee (SBC) website. Some of the information on the site relates to the past when the campus Budget Committee had a very different charge and focus. We are now in a different context that challenges committee members to think more broadly about financial sustainability and growth, with its implications for student access and achievement, research and scholarship, and economic and community health. Our goal is to better understand the many interconnected and interdependent systems that impact all members of our campus community as well as our many community constituents.

The membership on the SBC is an excellent example of shared governance in action! Some members are appointed by the Chancellor while others are elected by their respective groups. Students, staff, faculty and administrators bring different views and knowledge to the discussions, thus enriching and expanding the committee’s ability to look both inward and outward. It is our collective hope that our work will help to inform the Chancellor as she makes specific budget decisions.

UW Tacoma’s SBC was developed initially by faculty and administration, and we are proud of what promises to be an invaluable group to assist in guiding the campus toward excellence in the education we provide for students.
