Giving back in the South Sound - A Community Profile Study

The Center for Leadership & Social Responsibility, in partnership with the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce jointly sponsored a study titled "Giving Back in the South Sound" in the summer and fall of 2008.  The study was conducted by Dr. Jill Purdy, Associate Professor of Management in the Milgard School of Business and Dr. Stern Neill, Associate Professor of Marketing at Cal Poly (formerly at the Milgard School). 

The study explored how business in the South Sound region of Washington supports the community, how much they give, why they give and how they manage their community engagement process. The study revealed many interesting findings which were presented on December 16, 2008 in W.W. Philip Hall on the UW Tacoma campus. That presentation is attached for download, in pdf format.

We plan to repeat this study bi-annually to track changes in corporate social practice in our community.  Thank you to the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce and to those who participated in the survey.
