Chancellor Mark Pagano encourages you to join him for Convocation, a UW Tacoma tradition that symbolizes the importance of university-community partnerships. Convocation is a traditional event to welcome students to university life.

Because UW Tacoma is so well connected and supported by its surrounding community, we begin our celebration in the city by marching to campus in different processionals, led by drum lines, from two different locations. Each procession will include students and their families, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community. Once on campus, we'll enjoy a brief program and a festive event with student BBQ, music and a fair featuring local businesses and nonprofits showcasing what downtown Tacoma has to offer.
