How long is the program?
The K-8 Teacher Certification program begins in summer quarter only and is four quarters of full-time day study and field experience for the certificate only. Students wishing to also obtain a master’s degree can usually complete this in an additional year of part-time evening study which is conducive to a working teacher’s schedule.
What endorsement is offered?
Elementary Education and Speical Education. Endorsements are granted upon successful completion of the teacher certificate program and the WEST-E test. Additional endorsements may be obtained in consultation with the certification specialist.
In what area of study does my bachelor’s degree have to be?
Your bachelor’s degree can be in any discipline.
Does the admission requirement of 40 hours of documented experience have to be completed in a public school?
Yes. This admission requirement must be completed in a public school classroom within the last 5 years. The classroom should closely match the subject and age level you wish to teach.
