The Institute for Global Engagement (IGE), in collaboration with UWT's Division of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs (PPPA) and the World Affairs Council Tacoma, present Global Classroom, an interactive speaker series on global issues that matter.
Global Classroom brings to the South Sound community an opportunity to explore in-depth issues of global significance and their local implications. These quarterly moderated conversations feature leading practitioners and scholars who shed light on the complexities of global events and help us understand the impact of these events in the South Sound.

Winter 2017: Global Health and the South Sound
Health and well-being are imperatives that connect us globally. How these are experienced abroad and at home have more in common than one might expect. Local and global health experts will discuss challenges facing our world community. They will present case studies from around the world that pose solutions to health care challenges in the South Sound.
- John Wiesman (DrPH, MPH): Washington State Secretary of Health; accomplished transformational leader with more than 22 years of public health experience; focuses on whole systems approaches to health improvement
- David Reyes (DNP, MPH, RN): UW Tacoma Assistant Professor of Nursing & Healthcare Leadership; serves on UW Population Health Initiative task force; primary interests in improved population health systems and outcomes for diverse, vulnerable and underserved populations
- Janna Bardi (MPH): Washington State Assistant Secretary of Health, Prevention & Community Health Division; works to prevent disease and promote a healthy start, healthy choices, and access to services
- Enrique Leon (MD): Multicare Tacoma physician; active in public health advocacy; provides both local and international health care
