Model Course Schedules

The following model course schedules are intended as examples of how the full Global Honors curriculum can align with the requirements for various UWT majors. They may be used to project how students may achieve their educational goals in a feasible, timely, and sustainable manner.

Model Course Schedules by Academic Program

When using these models, please note:

  • Most of these models are designed for two year schedules, demonstrating how Global Honors courses can fit into the junior and senior years. However, students who join the Program in their sophomore year have greater flexibility and may opt to spread requirements over three years.
  • These are not definitive schedules and should not be used in lieu of the customized advising available from the Academic Advising Center and the Global Honors Program Administrator.  Students should also use the MyPlan online academic planning service.
  • Where heavy credit loads, tuition fee implications, and other possible conflicts arise, several suggested alternatives are included. Global Honors offers flexible pathways to program completion, which means practical options are available for students on a case-by-case basis.
  • If your major is not included below, it does not mean Global Honors is incompatible with your academic schedule. The models included here have been selected to demonstrate the academic diversity of program participants and to address common areas of scheduling uncertainty.

BS Computer Science & Systems

A PDF of this model schedule can be downloaded here.

Owing to a heavy courseload in the senior year, transfer students majoring in BS Computer Science & Systems are generally not able to complete full Global Honors requirements. Contact the Program Administrator at ghonors@uw.edu and visit the Global Honors Pathways page to check your options, or consider the BA Computer Science & Systems model above. Students attending UW Tacoma for three or more years may complete Program requirements as below.

BABA Accounting

A PDF of this model schedule can be downloaded here.

Owing to a heavy courseload in the junior year, this model suggests most Global Honors requirements could be completed in the senior year. However, our courses are intended to be completed in sequence, and an alternative arrangement that spreads them more equally over two years might be possible by re-arranging Accounting courses. Check with the Global Honors Program Administrator and an academic advisor to discuss your options.

BA Criminal Justice

Students majoring in Criminal Justice must complete 45 credits of core courses and 20 credits of core electives. Core courses are generally offered in multiple quarters and may be completed in any order (unless pre-requisites for a particular course need to be completed first), meaning a model schedule is not practical or necessary.

Typically, up to 25 credits of general electives are also taken during the junior and senior years. The Minor in Global Engagement may account for these general electives. If outstanding admission pre-requisites or general education requirements also need to be fulfilled by general electives, Global Honors may satisfy some or all of these requirements as explained at the bottom of this page. Full curriculum requirements for BA Criminal Justice are explained here.

Urban Studies

There is often considerable overlap and flexibility when combining Global Honors with BA Urban Studies or BA Sustainable Urban Development. There are also substantial thematic connections. Consult an Academic Advisor and the Global Honors Program Administrator to determine what schedule works best for you.

General Education Requirements

To graduate with a bachelor's degree in any major, you must meet minimum general education and basic skills requirements in addition to the requirements of your academic program(s). Global Honors courses may satisfy some or all of these deficits, as summarized below.

General University Graduation Requirements

All students must complete a minimum of 180 credits to include:

  • No fewer than 40 credits of general education courses, to include a minimum of 10 credits in each of three Areas of Knowledge (AoK): Natural World (NW), Individuals and Society (I&S), and Visual, Literary and Performing Arts (VLPA):

TGH 301 and TGH 303 each count for 5 credits of I&S

TGH 302 counts for 5 credits of VLPA

  • A minimum of 15 credits of writing to include 5 credits of English composition and 10 credits of writing-intensive courses:

All Global Honors core courses count for writing credit
