The Institute for Global Engagement
Global Honors Program
The Global Honors Program is UW Tacoma's interdisciplinary campus honors program. Our mission is to prepare students to meet the challenges of an interdependent world. Our curriculum is designed to help highly motivated students enhance their education of global issues. Through rigorous core seminars, exciting study abroad opportunities, and extra-curricular events, honors scholars embark on enriching pathways to community leadership and global citizenship.
The mission of the Global Honors Program reflects the mission of the University of Washington Tacoma in its commitment to educate diverse learners and expand the boundaries of knowledge and discovery.
"Any citizen of this complex and exciting world needs a sensitive and intellectual understanding of its interdependent nature. As a Global Honors student, you are uniquely privileged to explore the myriad possibilities and challenges of globalization. The interdisciplinary and transnational curriculum, study abroad opportunities, and close-knit faculty and students contribute to an enriching environment within which to study your place and purpose on this planet." -- Dr. Divya McMillin, Executive Director
Benefits of Global Honors
Employers and graduate programs are keenly interested in candidates who excel above and beyond conventional degree holders in the field. Demonstration of global competencies and cross-cultural fluency is also advantageous. Graduates with a Minor in Global Engagement, the Global Honors distinction, or certification in Global Leadership or Global Citizenship will therefore enjoy a competitive advantage over their peers. Our core curriculum gives students a sophisticated understanding of the intricacies of global interactions and prepare them for the challenges of a global society.
Global Honors students can expect:
