From the desk of the Vice Chancellor

Patrick PowThe top priority of Information Technology is to support teaching and learning as well as all the administrative activities at UW Tacoma. We continue to provide a technical infrastructure and a technology environment to enable faculty, staff and students to fully engage in interdisciplinary and innovative teaching and scholarship on our campus.

To ensure operational excellence and exceptional customer service, we consult work with a diverse group of instructors in our campus on an on-going basis. We provide support and training for Blackboard and Catalyst Web Tools, offer podcasting and video casting (vodcasting) service to selected courses so that students can review the classes throughout the quarter and more. Our hope is that we will continue to develop IT best practices to share with all campus members.

We have equipped eight new classrooms in the recently opened Joy Building. Two large classrooms with seating capacity for 80 students are already in use. Also available are four Smart classrooms located on the 2nd floor. In Autumn Quarter, the 1st floor will have two collaborative learning classrooms with movable furniture and dual-projection images. For students taking classses in these two collaborative learning classrooms, we will provide them with 24 PC and 6 Mac computers in a laptop cart during classes.

If you have any suggestions on how to improve our services, please contact me directly.  I will seriously consider each and every input received. Thank you.
