Having course materials online is helpful for both preparedness and for student accessibility. The following list contains ways you can share various types of course materials with your students online. For recommendations on how to prepare in advance and conduct classes during a large-scale disruption to campus operations, contact us.
Blackboard is the course management system at UW Tacoma. Instructors can use this tool as a central place to post course materials, resources, and links as well as provide a number of online classroom activities. You can use Blackboard to turn in assignments online, to grade online, and to create online student groups. If you want to use Blackboard for a course, fill out the course request form. Other tools in Blackboard include: discussion boards, chat, blogs, wikis, and journals.
Catalyst Web Tools provides a collection of tools that can be used to enhance face-to-face courses. There is an assignment dropbox, discussion board and file sharing. You use your NetID to gain access to these tools. Catalyst Web Tools can also be used within Blackboard.
Lecture Capture (podcasts)can be used by faculty to create lectures that can be accessed remotely. They can also be used to share other audio and video materials with students online. Podcasts can be uploaded into a Blackboard course site.
Course reserves in the UW Tacoma library can be used to make reading materials available to students online. E-Reserves are produced by scanning or converting print material provided by the instructor into PDF files. E-Reserves can be linked to a Blackboard course site.
