Culture

Our campus is respectful, productive and inclusive.

Quality relationships are the foundation of a great workplace. Employees benefit from infrastructure that keeps them informed, makes their work more efficient and highlights their accomplishments. UW Tacoma aspires to be an employer of choice by cultivating trust, care and mutual accountability. These require investments in effective communication, shared governance and administrative processes.

Communications Plan for Strategic Planning

Communicating our progress on the Strategic Plan and key metrics on campus initiatives is critical to our campus momentum. We will develop a communications plan that engages key constituencies using appropriate media and messages to accomplish clear understanding of progress.

Tri-Campus Climate Survey

In collaboration with other cross-University efforts, the Office of Equity & Inclusion will help shepherd the administration of a tri-campus climate survey on the UW Tacoma campus during the 2018-2019 academic year. E & I will also help support efforts to synthesize data from the survey, share findings and plan strategies and actions associated with recommendations that emerge from the survey.

Propose Programs Becoming Schools

UW Tacoma is seeking approval from University of Washington and the Board of Regents for the Nursing and Healthcare Leadership, Urban Studies, and Social Work and Criminal Justice programs to be recognized as schools.

Campus Living Room

SAES will partner with Finance & Administration to engage the UW Tacoma community to envision and propose a plan for a campus living room and other informal gathering areas that include eating options and facilitate social interactions between and among students, faculty and staff.

Create Learning Commons

In order to enhance the student experience and positively impact student persistence and success, we are working to create a Learning Commons – a space with integrated technology, support and consultative services in a central and seamless learning environment for all members of the UW Tacoma community.

Advancement Officers for Schools and Other

In order to continue boosting mission-aligned private and alternative resource development within the Schools, units and other priority projects and initiatives, we will explore cost-sharing initiatives to increase the capacity of Advancement at UW Tacoma by adding dedicated Development Officers.

Revisit Internal Communications

We will initiate an audit of current internal communications practices, establish goals for communication and engagement, consider opportunities for process improvement, and create an implementation plan for improved UW Tacoma internal communications.

Create Long-Term Commencement Plan

Currently, there are two commencement ceremonies for UW Tacoma at the Tacoma Dome. The current state is not viable long-term due to our growth. We will explore various options for how to create UW Tacoma commencement ceremonies that are meaningful for our graduating students and their families.

Create Leadership Development Program

Partnering with our academic units, experts from throughout the UW system, and experts from across higher education, we will develop a cohort-based leadership learning experience for current faculty and emerging leaders from across campus.
