Applying to the Institute of Technology is done online — you apply to UW Tacoma and and Institute degree program with a single application. The steps for applying vary depending on your student status. The chart below outlines the steps for each type of applicant. If you have questions about the application procedure or the admission requirements, please contact the Institute at uwtech@uw.edu.

Complete applications received by the application deadline will be assured of a review. Complete applications received after the application deadline will be reviewed on a space-available basis.

  1. Complete the Application for Transfer Admission.
  2. Request an official transcript for all college-level coursework.
  3. High school transcripts are required only if foreign language or intermediate algebra requirements were completed in high school.
Running Start student
  1. Complete the Application for Freshman Admission.
  2. Request an official high school transcript.
  3. Request an official transcript for all college-level coursework.

Personal statement guidelines

Your personal statement should be no more than 500-650 words and should be entered in the space provided in the UW Tacoma online application. Please tell us why you want to study computer science, engineering or information technology and include any other information you would like us to consider.

Your personal statement will be weighted most heavily in our admission decision if:

  1. You do not meet the preferred transfer GPA requirements.
  2. You have had previous academic difficulties. (Please address these issues in your statement and tell us how you plan to overcome these difficulties in your future studies.)
