Final exam policies
- Changing final exam
- Faculty who have a good reason for requesting a change in the exam schedule should request permission in writing from the IAS director at the beginning of the quarter in question.
If you choose not to give a final examination, please set a specific time and place for your students to submit papers or projects to you. This can be done on the last day of instruction for your course or during your scheduled final exam period. Please do not tell your students to turn their work in at the IAS office.
Planned faculty absences from classes
- Guideline on faculty absences
- A maximum of two planned absences from class are reasonable during one quarter. Options for class activities include: watching a video; working on a project; an examination administrated by another faculty member or a graduate student; a guest lecturer, faculty member from another university or research presenter who is from the UW Tacoma Library, Teaching and Learning Center, or a professional from the community.
Who is in charge when the faculty member is absent? Appropriate individuals to supervise the class include: another faculty member; a UW Tacoma librarian or staff member from the Teaching & Learning Center; a graduate student; a faculty member from another institution or a professional from the community. Inappropriate individuals to supervise the class include: any undergraduate student; an IAS or other UW Tacoma staff member except as noted above.
Please provide Julie Buffington with the following information about your planned absence from campus: the dates of your absence; contact information during your absence; and a description of the class activity and/or individual responsible for supervising your class during your absence.
Student misconduct forms and information
