Minors and certificates

UW Tacoma students may pursue minors and certificates across the curriculum. This means IAS students are not limited to choosing the IAS minors and certificates listed below. You may easily earn a certificate or minor while progressing toward your degree. You must have earned a minimum of 90 credits before declaring a minor and all minors must be completed with a 2.0 minor GPA.

A minor is an optional program of study (usually 25 to 35 credits) built around a particular subject or skill, for example, nonprofit management or museum studies.

Minors can be helpful in two ways: You can focus your degree by choosing a minor related to your major or you can broaden your degree by taking an unrelated but complementary minor (for example, a business student taking a computing minor). Your minor will also show up on your transcripts.

You can declare a minor by using the same request to declare/change major form  and submitting it to Enrollment Services (GWP 102). You must have earned a minimum of 90 credits before declaring a minor. If you have any questions about this process, please see your adviser.

To learn more about all of the minors available on campus, go to Academic Advising: Minors.

IAS minors and certificates

IAS offers twelve minors and one certificate program. The certificate is available to all students. Minors are available to all UW Tacoma students seeking their first bachelor's degree. Whether you are studying in IAS, Business, Nursing or in another program, an IAS minor may be just what you need to round out your education. For IAS students, some minors work better with some concentrations than others. You are encouraged to talk with an adviser.

All minors must be completed with a 2.0 minor GPA. Please see an adviser to discuss details.
