The UWT Office of International Programs is pleased to announce a new fall 2012 study abroad program: Sustainable Urban Development: Lessons from the Netherlands.

This Urban Studies field course is intended to enhance students’ perspectives on urbanism and contemporary urban development challenges and concerns, with a particular focus on the concept of sustainable urban development, drawing from examples and experiences in The Netherlands. The Netherlands is known throughout the world as a leader in urban sustainability, from their extensive public transit system and use of alternative forms of transportation, to their land use regulations and social equity planning, through their employment of regional development strategies, innovative housing policies, and eco-industrial development projects. Students will spend the majority of their time in three cities: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Utrecht, with additional travel excursions to other Dutch cities on field trips to explore spatial, historical, social, economic and political dimensions of urbanism in contemporary Europe. This course will also include a one-week excursion to the German city of Hamburg, the 2011 European Green Capital.

This course offers students 12 credits for T URB 379, Urban Studies Field Experience. Urban Studies Professor, Mark Pendras, will take a maximum of *15* students on this Holland journey. If you’re interested, do check out the program and apply now…priority consideration will be given to student applications received by April 16th.
