Akane has been at UW Tacoma since October 2014. Despite the fact she grew up in a small coastal town of Japan, thanks to her parents who were involved in Sister Cities Programs, she was exposed to value of cross-cultural exchanges and English language at a young age. After completing high school in her hometown, she moved to Bellingham, WA as an International Student. She attend Whatcom Community College and attained her A.A degree in Business Administration. Then she transferred to Western Washington University and earned B.A in Business Administration - Marketing, Minor in TESOL and M.Ed. in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education. After completing her master's degree, she worked at various universities and colleges in Washington state. Akane is passionate about working with international students and connecting them with opportunities and resources to make the most of their time at UW Tacoma and beyond.

Amber came to UW Tacoma in the spring of 2017 with over 5 years of professional experience in higher education at University of North Texas where she worked in human resources and as an International Student Services Coordinator for the Intensive English Language Institute. She has studied abroad in Morocco, Italy, and France, and she is currently studying Arabic. Amber is completing her M.A. in International Education at SIT Graduate Institute in Vermont, a top graduate program in this field. She earned a B.A. in English from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and she is originally from Minnesota. Amber is passionate about working with international students and helping them engage with the UW Tacoma community.

Annemarie came to UW Tacoma in spring of 2015 with lots of international advising experience at TCC, where she has worked for 7 years as the International Housing and Short-Term Programs Coordinator and PDSO (Primary Designated School Official). She wore many hats during this time with a growing international population at TCC. Prior to her time at TCC, she was a program assistant for the IESL program at Green River College.
Annemarie knows what it’s like to be an international student as she grew up in the Netherlands. Ever since she was in high school she’s always wanted to study abroad for a year. After she graduated from college she was able to realize this dream and came to Seattle to study. She earned a four-year degree in Marketing, Presentation and Communication from the Netherlands. In 2006 she began working full-time with international students in the U.S. Annemarie is fluent in Dutch and English.
