The Media Collection contains over 7,000 items, selected in support of the UW Tacoma curriculum. Most of our videos are available to the entire UW academic community. The Media Collection encourages the use of media for research, intellectual growth, professional development and personal enjoyment.
Patrons with UW Libraries borrowing privileges can check out items from Media Collection that are not on class reserve. Videos and sound records are checked out for of 7 days, with unlimited renewals (if not on hold for another patron). Videos can be scheduled in advance for preview or classroom use. Visitors please see additional information on Using the Media Collection: Visitors
Because of the limited number of terminals, the research and academic needs of current University of Washington students, faculty and staff have first priority for all video equipment. Extended recreational use deters others from using this equipment for educational or research purposes, and otherwise makes the Library less conducive to study. This activity is therefore prohibited, and recreational users who watch videos for extended periods of time will be asked to relinquish their use of video equipment.
The Collection Development Policy articulates the criteria by which videos are selected for the Media Collection. If you have any questions or would like to make a recommendation, please contact Justin Wadland.
