Lauren Pressley Elected to National Leadership Role

She will be the next Vice President/President Elect of the Association of College & Research Libraries

We are excited to announce that Lauren Pressley, Director of the UW Tacoma Library and Associate Dean of UW Libraries, has been elected Vice President/President Elect of ACRL, the Association of College and Research Libraries!  This is a great achievement for Lauren, and an honor for UW Libraries and UW Tacoma.Lauren Pressley, Director of the UW Tacoma Library

"I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of a profession that advances and transforms learning, knowledge, and community,” Lauren says. “The actual work of librarianship is intellectually exciting. Understanding trends and changes in higher education, culture, and society; analyzing what this broader context means for our work; and evolving what we do to position the library to best serve our local community is important and interesting work."

With about 11,000 members, ACRL is the largest division of the American Library Association (ALA).  The mission of ACRL is to develop programs and resources that enable librarians nationwide to best serve the higher education community, through setting standards for libraries in higher education, developing a framework for information literacy, offering professional development opportunities, and leading innovation in teaching, learning, and research.  ACRL publishes an open access journal, College & Research Libraries, as well.

Lauren will be instated as Vice President at the ALA annual conference in Chicago this June; next summer she will begin her year-long duties as President of ACRL, followed by a year of service as Past President.  Her role will include working with the ACRL board of directors in setting goals and directions that will help shape the future of the association, the profession, and higher education.

“ACRL is the preeminent association for academic librarianship and library work,” Lauren explains.  “Whether skill building early in one’s career, learning from professional development opportunities as the field evolves, or turning to authoritative guidelines, standards, and frameworks, ACRL meets the needs of academic library professionals throughout their careers and helps librarians position the library as a key institutional partner that helps our entire community succeed.  I am thrilled and honored to be elected to serve ACRL as Vice President/President Elect.”
