“This is a great opportunity for us to expand our global reach,” said UW Tacoma Milgard School of Business Dean Howard Smith during a visit by a delegation from the African nation of Ethiopia. “Ethiopia has the fastest growing economy in Africa and we welcome the possibility of working together with their business schools.”

The discussion centered on partnership opportunities including exchanges of students, faculty and staff, assistance in curriculum development, training and knowledge transfer as well as international accreditation in business education. Stan Emert, Executive Director (Interim) for Leadership & Social Responsibility, who organized the visit, added that the parties are already working on aspects of the cross-cultural educational exchange.

The Milgard School states that more details are soon to come as this relationship develops. An international perspective in education is a core value of the University of Washington: all three campuses have programs encouraging global awareness and welcoming international students. At UW Tacoma, international students are about 5% of enrollment, and offerings are coordinated through the Office of Global Affairs and the Institute for Global Engagement.
