January and February are busy months for scholarship deadlines! The UW Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards has a listing of upcoming deadlines on their website, along with a scholarship search engine. They also offer scholarship advising appointments, including assistance with scholarship applications (essay feedback, etc), and workshops on the Seattle campus.
Here are just a few of the scholarships with deadlines fast approaching:
- UW Mary Gates Endowment Leadership Scholarship - due Monday, Jan. 23, 5pm - Mary Gates Leadership Scholarships encourage undergraduate students to develop their leadership abilities through practical experience, personal reflection and in community with mentors and peers. With the support of a Leadership Scholarship, you can devote more time to pursuing an activity or project that interests you and that will allow you to expand your leadership capacity.
- UW Mary Gates Endowment Research Scholarship - due Friday, Jan. 27, 5pm - Mary Gates Research Scholarships are competitive scholarships intended to enhance the educational experiences of undergraduate students at the University of Washington while they are engaged in research guided by faculty.
- Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship - due Monday, Jan. 30 - The goal of the Fellowship Program is to attract outstanding students who enroll in two-year master's degree programs in public policy, international affairs, public administration, or academic fields such as business, economics, political science, sociology, or foreign languages, who represent all ethnic, racial and social backgrounds and who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career in the U.S. Department of State.
- German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) undergraduate scholarships for study, research, internships abroad - due Tuesday, Jan. 31
- National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship - due Wednesday, Feb. 1 - The National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship Program offers competitive scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health-related research.
- Thomas R. Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship - due Friday, Feb. 3 - The Thomas R. Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship program provides funding to participants as they are prepared academically and professionally to enter the United States Department of State Foreign Service.
- UW Bonderman Travel Fellowship - due Tuesday, Feb. 7, 12:00 noon - The Bonderman Travel Fellowship offers University of Washington graduate students and undergraduate students in the University Honors Program (Interdisciplinary, Departmental or College Honors) and in UW Tacoma’s Global Honors Program an opportunity to engage in independent exploration and travel abroad.
- Astronaut Scholarship - nominations due Friday, Feb. 17 - The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation was created to ensure that the United States would maintain its leadership in science and technology by supporting promising students in science and engineering. Candidates must be nominated by faculty members and it is recommend that students take the initiative by downloading the scholarship application materials and meeting with a faculty member for nomination purposes.
