Construction will impact parking on campus
Update: The Diamond parking lots, except the court 17 garage are restricted to permit parking only from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays. Hourly parking will be permitted at all other times.
Construction on the new Tioga Library Building will close part of the parking lot at 21st Street and Jefferson Avenue and cause some pedestrian and traffic re-routing starting Jan. 4.
The parking lot (also known as Lot 431) will have reduced capacity to allow for construction staging. The north entrance to the lot (off Jefferson Avenue) will also be closed, leaving the 21st Street entrance as the only access to the lot. Entry to the lot will be open only to westbound traffic on 21st and vehicles exiting the lot will be required to turn right (westbound) on 21st. A detailed map with routes can be found here (PDF).
The sidewalk along the construction site on the east side of Jefferson Avenue will also be closed to pedestrians through March 2011. Access to businesses in the Tioga building, including Metro Coffee, will still be available.
If there are no available spaces in the lot, students, faculty and staff who have parking permits for this lot may park in the Court 17 garage with the same permit.
The new building will be constructed next to the historic Tioga Building, built in 1889. A one-story former manufacturing facility, built in 1952, will be demolished. Construction is scheduled for completion in spring 2012.
