Although it is a common practice, intoxication is relatively unexamined state of being. Scholars tend to link it with outcomes such as addiction, incarceration, or death. This special issue considers intoxication through multidisciplinary analyses which explore the possibilities of intoxication as an intentional performance, a transgression of cultural norms, and a human practice that is normalized as an expression of intentional agency.
