UW Tacoma hosts alternative site for Lakewood officers' memorial service

The University of Washington Tacoma is providing an alternative site where the public can view the memorial service for the Lakewood police officers killed on Sunday, Nov. 29. Live television coverage will be projected onto a theater-size screen in William W. Philip Hall, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

"We share in the grief and we are happy to participate in some small way by opening our doors to support the families and friends of the fallen officers," says Patricia Spakes, Chancellor of UW Tacoma. "There is a whole campus effort behind this event. Many have volunteered time to contribute to, and be a part of, this important memorial service to commemorate the lives of these four officers who so tragically lost their lives in service to their community."

UW Tacoma is located downtown along the Tacoma Link Light Rail route a mile from the Tacoma Dome where the memorial service is taking place.

UW Tacoma enrolls 3,100 students in a range of bachelor's and master's degree programs on a campus set in refurbished historic buildings of the Union Depot Historic Warehouse District located at the heart of a growing urban cultural district.
