Milgard Scholarships

The Milgard School of Business awards scholarships annually to our enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. Funding for these scholarships come from a variety of contributions that include the Milgard Endowments, the Allan and Judith Trinkwald Endowment, the Simpson Investment Endowment, Judith Kopp Endowment, William Philip Endowment, US Bank, Wells Fargo, Homestreet Bank, Saltchuck, Costco and other local businesses, friends and alumni.
Last year, Milgard School of Business awarded scholarships to 138 students, totaling approximately $430,000.

 

ABOUT OUR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Applications are accepted twice a year.

Reapply each year for scholarships. If you received a scholarship last year you will need to reapply, unless your scholarship letter indicated the award was renewable or continuing.

The scholarship application process for new Milgard undergraduates and new MBA students occurs two times per year for new Autumn and Winter admits.  Continuing  undergraduate and MBA students may apply each Spring for Autumn scholarships.  Master of Accounting (MAcc) scholarships are awarded two times per year. 

Autumn scholarships are awarded in early July. BABA & MAcc scholarship applications for Autumn quarter must be received by May 1st; MBA scholarship applications for Autumn quarter are due by June 1st.
Winter scholarships are generally for two quarters only and are awarded in late December to new incoming students.
 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Late applications will not be accepted. Visit UW Tacoma Scholarships, UW Tacoma Office of Student Fellowships and UW Scholarships for more opportunities.
Recipients of Autumn scholarships will be notified via mail in early July and must return a signed acceptance before August 1, 2016.
Recipients of Winter scholarships will be notified via mail in late December and must follow the instructions in the letter.

ELIGIBILITY

You are eligible for Milgard scholarships if:

  • You're a current Milgard undergraduate (BABA) or graduate (MAcc or MBA) student
  • You've applied or have been accepted to become a Milgard undergraduate (BABA) student
  • You're a current Freshman Direct student entering your junior or senior year
  • Your UW Tacoma or transfer cumulative GPA is 3.0 or higher
  • You plan to carry 12 or more credits per quarter for the 2016-2017 academic year/or 8 or more as a graduate student

You are not eligible if:

  • You are a tuition-exempt student
  • You are an entering (new) Freshman Direct student

MILGARD SCHOOL OF BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIPS

Milgard Endowed Scholarships- These scholarships provide up to $4,500 per year to selected undergraduate students, up to $5,500 to MAcc students and up to $6,500 to MBA students. As part of the undergraduate program, scholarship recipients are expected to participate in an experiential learning opportunity (research, tutoring, voluntary income tax preparation, mentoring or service to the program). In addition to maintaining a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA and completing an average of 36 credit hours (12 credits per quarter), each student must contribute approximately 20 hours each quarter in their selected learning opportunity.

Gary E. Milgard Tribute Scholarship- Henry T. Schatz established this scholarship as a tribute to Gary E. Milgard, who was a human being of great integrity and an alumnus of the University of Washington.  Mr. Schatz admired and respected Mr. Milgard for being a highly ethical entrepreneur who attained great business success.  The purpose of this scholarship is to provide assistance to undergraduate students in the Milgard School of Business.  Award up to $2,500 per year

Carol Berry Milgard Tribute Scholarship- Henry T. Schatz established this scholarship out of respect and admiration for Carol Berry Milgard and as a tribute to Mrs. Milgard, who was known for her love of young people and her willingness to devote both her time and her resources to help them.  The purpose of this scholarship is to help financially needy entering freshmen or transfer undergraduate students intending to study at the Milgard School of Business.  Award up to $2,500 per year

Judith Graubard Kopp Scholarship- Larry Kopp has enjoyed a highly successful business career as an executive working for national and international corporations.  His experiences have shown him that a business education provides individuals with transformational experiences and not only does this benefit the students, but it also benefits their employers, colleagues, community, and families.  This yearly scholarship is to be awarded for overall excellence by women students in business and in life, including those just entering UW Tacoma and continuing students.  Award up to $2,500 per year

US Bank Scholarships- The US Bank Foundation giving program is designed to respect the diversity of our communities. Milgard is fortunate to have the opportunity to award  US Bank scholarships to Business students who are State of WA residents and demonstrate financial need and display academic merit.  Scholarships are provided to offset tuition and minimize the need for student loans.  Award up to $5,000 per year

William Philip Endowed Scholarship- William W. Philip has been a long-time University of Washington, Tacoma Advisory Board member and volunteer.  In order to express to Mr. Philip the gratitude of the community for his excellent work on behalf of the UW Tacoma, a few of his close associates raised the funds necessary to establish this endowment.  The purpose of this scholarship is to provide assistance to graduate students in the MBA program at the Milgard School of Business. Graduate students.  Award up to $5,000 per year

UW Tacoma Wells Fargo Diversity Scholarship-This scholarship is sponsored by Wells Fargo, in support of students involved in organizations or activities which support diversity.  Award up to $2,500 per year

Allan and Judith Trinkwald Endowed Scholarship- This scholarship is specific to undergraduate students admitted to the Milgard School of Business with preference to the Freshman Direct Admit students and is merit and/or financial need based.

Simpson Investment Company Milgard Endowed Scholarship- This scholarship is specific to undergraduate students admitted to the Milgard School of Business with preference to the Freshman Direct Admit students and is merit and/or financial need based.

The Saltchuck Scholarship- This merit-based scholarship from Saltchuck will be awarded annually to entering UW Tacoma Milgard undergrad and MBA students with maritime, military, or transportation experience or who demonstrate an interest in women's issues or participate in Boy's & Girls Clubs activities in the Puget Sound region.
