How to Apply

The Professional Development Center uses an online application system (separate from the rest of UW Tacoma). Simply follow these instructions to apply:

  1. Find your program from the list below and complete the application provided there.
  2. Click Add to Cart then Check Out to register and add your name to the application roster for screening.
  3. Create a new Account or sign in to your existing account.
  4. Click Check Out again and continue with payment process.

Once we have verified you have created an account and paid the application fee, we will review your application. Note: Submitting the application 

If qualified, you will be emailed instructions on how to register and pay for a specific class session.  "Add to Cart" registration buttons are only visible to students who have been accepted into the program.

Certified Public Manager

Entrance requirements:

  • Participants must be currently employed in first-level supervisory or mid-management positions in city, county, state, tribal or non-profit agency.
  • Applicants must provide evidence in their application they have completed (or provide a written plan to complete) 40 hours of an approved First Level Supervision course(s) prior to certification. Download the Pre-Req Evaluation Form to see if your prior training qualifies.

Contract Management

Entrance requirements:

  • Two years of college is preferred, and one year of work experience related to contracts.

Craft Beer (All Specializations)

Minimum Requirements:

The following requirements must be met to be accepted:

  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Completed an A.A. or course studies equivalent of two years - OR - two-years of work and/or military experience

For acceptance to any extended certificate specialization program successful completion of “Mastering Beer Styles” is required.

Course requirement may be waived with review & confirmation of prior certifications; i.e., BJCP or Cicerone certifications. A waiver fee of $100 will apply.

    Entrepreneurship

    We are not currently offering an open-enrollment Entrepreneurship course. However, you can sign up here to receive program updates!

    Fundraising Management

    Entrance requirements:

    • Two years of college; OR
    • Two years experience in the field of development and fundraising.

    Human Resources Management

    Click here submit your application form. (Once you submit your application form you will be automatically redirected to the payment page where you can add the Application to your cart and pay the application $25 fee.)

    Entrance requirements:

    • Two years of college; AND
    • Two years of work experience in human resources (training, compensation, staffing, benefits, employee relations) oras a supervisor/manager. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

    Lean Six Sigma: Black Belt

    Did you earn your Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from UW Tacoma?  

    1. Click here submit your application form. (When you submit, you'll be sent to the registration site.)
    2. At the registration site, Use Add to Cart to place the Black Belt Application $0 fee into your cart.
    3. Complete the process until you have reached the confirmation page.
    4. We will review and once approved, we will send instructions on how to register for the location/class of your choice.

    Did you earn your Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from another provider?

    1. Click here submit your application form
    2. At the registration site, Use Add to Cart to place the Black Belt Application $25 fee into your cart.
    3. Complete the process until you have reached the confirmation page.
    4. We will review and once approved, we will send instructions on how to register for the location/class of your choice.

    Entrance requirements:

    • Minimum of 40 hour Lean Six Green Belt Certificate Training or evidence of equivalent process improvement training and experience.

    Nonprofit Management

    Click here submit your application form. (Once you submit your application form you will be automatically redirected to the payment page where you can add the application fee to your cart.)

    Entrance requirements:

    • Two years of college; OR
    • Two years experience in the field of nonprofits.

    Lushootseed Language Survey

    There is no application fee for this program.  Click here to take the survey, then register and pay for the course.  You are registered as soon as you have completed both the survey and registration process and have a payment confirmation. (Once you submit the survey, return to the payment page where you can register and pay for the course.)
