2011 BASW graduatesThe University of Washington Tacoma Master of Social Work (MSW) degree and the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Social Welfare (commonly referred to as the BASW program) are accredited degree programs and alternative programs of the University of Washington School of Social Work. The MSW degree was established in 1998 and the BASW degree in 2002.

The UW Tacoma Social Work program has strong ties to the community with nearly 100 of our current Social Work students completing practicum placements in the surrounding area, faculty conducting collaborative research with partners in our community and numerous alumni actively involved in service and helping professions largely in the South Puget Sound region.

In 2010 the Social Work Program established a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Criminal Justice. This program is unique in that it emphasizes a social justice perspective, designed to help students understand criminal justice issues from restorative and rehabilitative approaches.

The Social Work program is still accepting applications for the Criminal Justice and Social Welfare autumn 2012 admissions. Please refer to our Criminal Justice How to Apply and Social Welfare How to Apply pages for more information.
