BASW How to Apply

Applying for admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare program is a two-part process requiring an application to the University and an application to the BASW program.

Plan Ahead:

The BASW program admits new students for autumn quarter only. Applicants should have all required forms and transcripts submitted on or before the application deadline to be considered "on-time." Applications received after the application deadline will be reviewed on a space-available basis and may be placed on a wait list. Admission is competitive.

Supplemental BASW application materials

Print a copy of the Supplemental BASW Application materials . The materials include the application, instructions for applying, guidelines for the admissions essay and resume, Conviction/Criminal History Information form and Authorization for Repeat Background Checks and Dissemination Results Forms .

Depending on your status, the application form and process may vary:

Current UW Tacoma Students

Current students must complete a Declare/Change Major form and submit all required BASW application materials to the program for consideration.

• Review the list of admission requirements for the Social Welfare major.
• Complete the Social Welfare Application, which includes an admissions essay, current resume, Conviction/Criminal History Information form and Authorization for Repeat Background Checks and Dissemination Results Forms.
• Submit an unofficial copy of your UW Transcript (print from My UW)

Transfer Students

Applying to the BASW program is a two-part process requiring application to the University and submission of required BASW application materials.

• Complete the Application for Transfer Admission
• Complete the Social Welfare Application, which includes an admissions essay, current resume, Conviction/Criminal History Information form and Authorization for Repeat Background Checks and Dissemination Results Forms.

If you are transferring from a CSWE accredited BASW or BSW program, please contact the Social Work Program office at 253-692-5820 for further information prior to submitting the transfer application.

Returning UW Tacoma Students

If you were previously enrolled at UW Tacoma, submit a Returning Student Application in lieu of the Application for Transfer Admission.

• Complete the Returning Former Student application
• Returning students may also need to submit supplemental material to the Social Welfare program. Check with the program adviser for details

International Students

• Complete the Application for Transfer Admission - International form. You must also comply with the international student undergraduate admissions requirements.
• Complete the Social Welfare Application, which includes an admissions essay, current resume, Conviction/Criminal History Information form and Authorization for Repeat Background Checks and Dissemination Results Forms.

All Students
