Direct Deposit

UW Direct Deposit

In March of 2012, under Senate Bill 2584, the State passed a law that enables institutions of higher education to mandate direct deposit of employee's pay. This enables the University of Washington to implement direct deposit as a requirement or PayCards as an alternative way for employees to receive their salary.

Direct deposit is the most convenient and easiest way for you to receive your pay each pay date. Direct deposit of your payroll check means no lost or stolen paper checks, no waiting in line to pick up a payroll check and no special trip to your bank or credit union to cash your check. Many financial institutions offer incentives such as "free checking" to encourage participation in Direct Deposit.

To enroll in UW Direct Deposit, log in to the Employee Self-Service (ESS) system and follow the sign up link at the bottom of the home page.  It can also be processed using the Direct Deposit form.

Pay Advice Slips

Remember that pay advice slips are now available electronically through ESS. You can log in and get your own Printable Earnings Statement any time for the most current pay date as well as previous pay periods (one year of payroll history is available on line).
