Academic support

UW Tacoma is committed to helping you succeed. You have a wealth of resources available to you whether you need assistance working through a difficult paper, doing research or using a digital video camera for a class project.

Peer Advisors

Peer Advisors assist the Office of New Student Programs in providing direct service to new students aimed at encouraging a successful academic and social transition into the UW Tacoma community. PAs serve as role models and mentors to new students both through direct one-on-one interactions and through group activities and events. PAs are responsible for connecting new students with important campus resources and key university contacts fostering a positive transition and student experience.

The UW Tacoma Library is part of the UW Libraries system with access to more than 7 million volumes, 63,000 serials and numerous online databases and journals. Library staff offer workshops and one-on-one guidance in research.

Teaching and Learning Center

The Teaching and Learning Center is a place where all students can come for feedback, help, and inspiration during their academic and learning careers. It provides instructional support in reading, writing, math, science, statistics, public speaking and other areas. It is important to note that the TLC uses a cooperative, collaborative model for working with students.

Computer labs

UW Tacoma has two open student computer labs in addition to labs dedicated to academic programs, including Business, Education, GIS and Computer Science. Staff in the labs are available to help with technology issues. In addition, most of the campus offers free wi-fi access indoors and out.

Multimedia Lab

Located in CP 005, the Multimedia Lab is available for students to develop enhanced presentations and multimedia projects with video, audio, digital photos and graphics. The lab also includes collaborative space, wi-fi, an instructional projector and 22 open-lab stations. It's the place to go for designing a poster, editing class video projects, preparing your movie for the web, integrating media materials with other projects and advice on shooting video and photography.
