Knowledge at the core
The freshman curriculum is built around a series of core courses that blend different disciplines in a learning community that involves students, faculty and staff.
Each student is part of a cohort, a group of about 25 students who take classes together throughout the year. Cohorts are enrolled in four to five academic classes and one core lab section. The academic classes are distributed over three quarters (autumn, winter and spring) and fulfill general education requirements.
Even at the freshman level there are no 300-student classes and no TA-taught classes. Our faculty believes in a small, interdisciplinary learning environment, where you really get to know your professors as well as the other students in your classes.
Beyond the core curriculum, you will select each quarter from a range of elective courses that will allow you to explore and prepare for your major.
