Accident Procedures

In case of a collision or accident:

  • Render first aid if necessary.  Call for medical assistance if needed and take whatever steps are necessary to protect yourself and others from injury.
  • Report the accident to local police (911)
  • If vehicle needs to be removed from the roadway, call Fleet Rescue Road Service at 1-800-226-3860.
  • Provide the other parties involved in the accident the UW Liability Insurance ID Card located in the glove box.
  • Notify UW Tacoma Campus Safety at 253-692-4888 and Facilities Services at 253-606-2902
  • State law requires that a State of Washington Vehicle Collision Report be filled out if the damage exceeds $700 or there is a personal injury or death associated with the accident. Send the completed collision report to the agencies listed at the top of the form.
  • If a University employee is injured, submit an Online Accident Reporting System report within 24 hours

In case of minor damage, or if no other vehicles are involved

  • Take required precautions as necessary to prevent further incidents
  • Contact UW Tacoma Campus Safety at 253-692-4888 and Facilities Services at 253-606-2902
  • Return the vehicle to Facilities Services
  • If a University employee is injured, submit an Online Accident Reporting System report within 24 hours

In Case of Damage or Vandalism

Any damage or vandalism to a vehicle must be reported to Facilities Services even if a driver is not present at the time of damage.
