The University requires a background check for all employees (staff and faculty) being hired into a safety/security-sensitive position or those that are subject to the Washington State Child And Adult Abuse Law (CAAL). CAAL covers those who "will or may have unsupervised access" to special populations including: children under 16 years of age; developmentally disabled adults; or vulnerable adults. The University has identified academic units where these positions most reside. To this end, effective January 1, 2019 all new faculty (full-time and part-time) being hired into all University of Washington Tacoma academic units must pass a background check prior to employment. Please contact Heather Porter at email@example.com for more information and/or to initiate a background check.
