The Milgard School of Business at the University of Washington Tacoma earned accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 2011, and gained reaccreditation in 2016 following the Continuous Improvement Review conducted in 2015, as determined by the Board of Directors of AACSB International. AACSB was founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees in business and accounting.

UW Tacoma joined an elite group of institutions that have achieved business accreditation from AACSB International. Only 840 schools of business, or less than 5% worldwide, have earned this distinguished hallmark of excellence in management education.
To achieve accreditation, an institution’s business program must undergo a meticulous internal review and evaluation process. During this period, the school must develop and implement a mission-driven plan to satisfy standards relating to faculty qualification, strategic management of resources, interactions of faculty and students, as well as a commitment to continuous improvement and achievement of learning goals in degree programs.
Prior to 2011, UW Tacoma was jointly accredited with UW Seattle Foster School of Business and the UW Bothell Business Program; as of now, we are independently accredited by AACSB. For the first time in our history, the UW Tacoma Milgard School of Business program is listed separately in the list of AACSB members. Also, our undergraduate and MBA programs are now eligible for ranking by U.S. News & World Report and other publications. Coupled with the transition to school, it really means that the we now have an independent identity and are visible to the rest of the world.
