With programs in sustainable urban development, geographic information systems, urban design and community planning, it attracts a range of students hoping to promote social justice and equitable development.

Clyde & Sydna Koontz Nursing Scholarship
The Clyde and Sydna Koontz Endowed Nursing Scholarship provides financial assistance to nursing students at UW Tacoma. Both Clyde and Sydna Koontz are alumni of the UW: he holds an M.D. from the School of Medicine and she holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of Education. During his medical career, Dr. Koontz was a pulmonary care specialist serving patients in Pierce and South King counties, so scholarship students living in these areas receive preference, which can be awarded to students based on financial need or merit. Since his retirement from practice, Dr. Koontz has been one of UW Tacoma’s most devoted advocates.
