The Data and Analytics Academy in the Milgard Center for Business Analytics offers both Degree and Certification programs in business / data analytics. Our programs are designed to be work-compatible and flexible no matter what pathway you choose to advance your career in this high demand field.

Degree Programs

Master of Science in Business Analytics

This 12-month master program (from June to June) offers work compatible schedule with hybrid courses (40% in-person + 60% asynchronous eLearning). Classes are held biweekly on Saturdays. MSBA offers extensive knowledge of Business Analytics and work-based learning with an Industry Applied Project.

Minor in Business Data Analytics

The minor in Business Data Analytics is designed for undergraduate students in any major at UW Tacoma to understand how to interpret and analyze data. This minor requires 25 credits including 15 credits from three required courses and 10 credits of electives from the approved elective list.

Foundations for Data Analytics

In this program, students choose and complete any 12 of the courses that we offer in the program within 24 months. Students select courses that meet their specific learning goals, allowing for maximum flexibility and customization. Upon completion of these courses, students will be issued a Certificate in Foundations for Data Analytics.

 

  3-4 Weeks  Online    Weekend Classes

 

R for Business Analytics & Data Science

This specialization designed for students who would like to gain extensive knowledge of R through beginner level R1-R2 and intermediate level R3-R4 modules. Each module covers 3 hours face-to-face learning along with the complementing online learning materials. Students who complete Beginner R1-R2 and Intermediate R3-R4 earn "Beginner R" and "Intermediate R" badges issued by CBA.

Business/Data Analytics Degree Preparation

This specialization is intended for individuals who are planning to start their academic education journey in business analytics or data analytics. Students will learn the foundational knowledge needed to succeed and to have a good experience in any graduate and undergraduate business/data analytics degree program. This Certificate Program meets all of the pre-requisites necessary to be prepared for the UW Tacoma MSBA program.  Upon completion of these courses, students will be issued a Certificate in Business/Data Analytics Degree Preparation.

Data Science Degree Preparation

This specialization is intended for individuals who are planning to start their academic education journey in data science. Students will learn the foundational knowledge needed to succeed and to have a good experience in any graduate and undergraduate data science degree program. Upon completion of these courses, students will be issued a Certificate in Data Science Degree Preparation.

Introduction to Programming for Data Analytics

This specialization is intended for individuals planning to study data analytics that also want to gain an intermediate level of proficiency in R & Python programming skills.  No programming experience is required to start in this program.  Students will start at the Beginner level in R and Python, followed by Intermediate level R and Python thereafter. Upon completion of these courses, students will be issued a Certificate in Introduction to Programming for Data Analytics.

Introduction to Data Analytics for Managers

This specialization is designed for future business leaders and managers that want to gain a beginner level understanding of data analytics and how these capabilities can be leveraged by their teams at work.  Tools and methodologies in agile project management, data preparation, data analysis, data visualization and influencing decision making with storytelling will be covered.  Upon completion of these courses, students will be issued a Certificate in Introduction to Data Analytics for Managers.

Applied Data Analytics for Beginners

This specialization is designed for individuals that want to upskill in data analytics without pursuing a degree in the field.  Students will gain a beginner level understanding of data analytics that can be applied immediately in their current job.  It's also ideal for those seeking a career change into a business/data analyst position.  Tools and methodologies in data preparation, probability & statistics, data analysis, data visualization and influencing decision making with storytelling will be covered.  Upon completion of these courses, students will be issued a Certificate in Applied Data Analytics for Beginners.
