UMOJA CELEBRATION GOING VIRTUAL!
Join us online as we celebrate our 2020 graduates on Tuesday, June 9, starting at 5:30pm! This is a free and open event for everyone to attend. You, your family, and your friends are welcome to join us as we celebrate you and your accomplishments. There will be a few words shared by our Assistant Chancellor for Equity & Inclusion and others, and performances by local artists and groups. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, The Center for Equity and Inclusion family wants to honor your accomplishments and send you off with one last hoorah!
UMOJA CELEBRATION
The Center for Equity & Inclusion's 2020 Umoja Celebration: Moving Forward in Strength and Unity will honor the diverse student populations graduating from the University of Washington Tacoma as well as those communities of support who have traveled with them along the way. The Umoja Celebration is open to all graduating students. We especially encourage our students from historically underrepresented and minoritized backgrounds to RSVP, including but not limited to students of color, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, first-generation, veteran, graduate, disabled, formerly incarcerated, adult-learner, students with children, undocumented, DACAmented, and other student populations.
Umoja, one of the seven principles of Kwanza, is a Kiswahili word meaning unity. The Umoja Celebration is a time to gather, rejoice in our collective accomplishments, reflect on our experiences, and recommit ourselves to our ancestors, friends, family and community. Umoja highlights the strength of our communities, the power of our unity and energizes us to work for change within our world and ourselves.
