We have an opportunity to bring together in alignment several fundamental parts of our student- and community-focused mission. These units, which are critical to our values of access and excellence, include the Center for Equity & Inclusion (CEI), Library, Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) and veteran-related services (VMRC/VIBE).
Each of these units has been engaged in innovative planning for our continued enrollment growth. The possibility of moving these units into co-located facilities would enhance the UW Tacoma student experience by strengthening on-going efforts to promote student retention, persistence and success. The synergies fostered among these units would help bring our students and community together by unleashing new opportunities for learning, collaboration, community-building, and engagement.
UW Tacoma has selected McGranahan Architects as the design firm and Sellen Construction as the builder for this project. Design has just started. So far, two workshops with Learning Commons folks, one with Engineering folks. Additionla opportunities for input will be held in spring. Construction is expected to start in late 2020.
The Pre-design Report completed by McGranahan Architects is posted below. Please keep in mind the plans within this report are a starting point for the design conversation; these are not the final floor plans. Feel free to reach out with any questions on this exciting project!
