Global Affairs Fellows Positions
Academic Year 2017-2018


Job Title: Global Affairs Fellows – 3-4 positions available
Rate of Pay: $12 per hour
Supervisor: Study Abroad Manager & International Student Advisor
Hours per week: 10 hours per week (M-F, 9AM-5PM and some weekends, exact times are flexible)
Employment Period: June 1, 2017 - May 31, 2018

Unit and Position:
The Office of Global Affairs (OGA) consists of Study Abroad, Fellowships, International Student and Scholars Services and International Exchanges. OGA is looking 3-4 exemplary students to serve as Global Affairs Fellows.

Role Description:
 Serve as peer advisors for UW Tacoma students who’re interested in study abroad
 Support UW Tacoma students in applications to competitive fellowships
 Assist new international students with their transition to UW Tacoma
 Create community around international and domestic students
 Provide opportunities for students to learn about other cultures and languages
 Positively represent your country, culture, and UW Tacoma
 Assist OGA Staff with special projects
 Communicate with students via website, social media announcements, newsletters, etc…
 Plan and coordinate on-going events such as quarterly orientation for new students, Weekly UWTea Time, career workshops, International Education Week (IEW), and the Global Ambassadors Program.

Minimum Qualifications:
 Able to work at least 10 hours a week on campus during the 2017-18 academic year
 A minimum of one quarter as a full-time student at UW Tacoma
 Be a current UW Tacoma student in good academic standing (2.5 GPA or above).
 Ability to attend all training sessions as well as orientations
 Strong written and oral English skills; good communication skills
 Ability to solve problems, take initiative, manage conflict, and express maturity
 Willingness to share your culture and learn about others


Preferred Qualification:
 A valid driver’s license with two years of driving experience and willingness to be trained and drive a university vehicle.
