Hendrix the Husky Mascot
Main page content
In the summer of 2008 the Student Activities Board wondered what it would be like if UW Tacoma had its own mascot; almost immediately their School Spirit & Traditions Chair began working on the project. Working with UW Tacoma's Student & Enrollment Services and Advancement offices, as well as Husky Athletics...nine months later their vision became a reality!
How did Hendrix get his name?
Several "H" names were solicited by members of the UW Tacoma community, some of which included: Hayley, Humphrey & Hilda. These names and more were put on a ballot and students were given the opportunity to vote. Second place was "Hauser" but "Hendrix" was the clear winner. Some say it's a tribute to Seattle rock legend, Jimi Hendrix.
Our first priority is keeping our students, faculty, and staff safe during this time. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the Hendrix the Husky mascot program is temporarily suspended. Think of it as Hendrix staying home and doing his part in all of this, too! Appearances by Hendrix the Husky as well as the inflatable will not occur until recommendations from the CDC and/or other public health advisors confirm that is safe to do so again.
Request Hendrix for Your Next Event!
If you would like to request Hendrix to appear at your event, please complete our online form at least three (3) weeks in advance. Once submitted, the mascot coordinator will review Hendrix the Husky's availability and seek to coordinate his appearance at your event. Please be patient as we organize this process. We will follow up with you as quickly as possible.
