UW Tacoma Assistant Professor, Dr. Peter Selkin, embarked on a two-month expedition aboard the drilling vessel JOIDES Resolution.  Dr. Selkin will be studying samples of earth taken from miles down in the ocean floor of the Indian Ocean.

Dr. Selkin describes the Resolution as "a floating university", as he will be working with nearly 60 other scientists during the expedition.  According to Selkin, the expedition is looking to gain insight on the rise of the Himalayas and hopefully provide a more detailed picture of how we view the Earth's magnetic field.
