Before becoming a student in SIAS, you must be accepted as a student at UW Tacoma. Contact the Office of Admissions for more information.

Undergraduate applicants to SIAS must have completed the following general admission requirements:

  • 45 college quarter credits
  • 2.0 GPA
  • English composition - Students who have not completed English composition (the equivalent of Composition 101) with a 2.0 or higher grade before coming to UW Tacoma must complete TCORE 101 or TWRT 112 or the equivalent within the first two quarters at UW Tacoma.
  • Math - Demonstrated by completion of three years of high school math through intermediate (second year) algebra or a college level course in intermediate algebra with grade of 2.0 or higher.

Independent Study

One of the most rewarding things you can do while you are a student at UW Tacoma is independent study. Your independent study shows employers and graduate schools that you are better prepared for the world in ways you can't learn in a classroom alone.  Independent work develops your initiative, responsibility and creativity--it shows you can work independently on projects and take pride in your work. You have four options for independent study: undergraduate research, directed readings, internships and a senior thesis.

SIAS Scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of UW Tacoma's donors, who include friends, faculty, staff and alumni, the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences has the honor of awarding several scholarships to outstanding qualifying students. In Spring 2017 SIAS awarded $42,000 to 7 undergraduate students within our program.

Awards for our scholarships are made in the spring quarter for the upcoming academic year. Typically, awards are credited to student accounts and may be applied towards tuition, fees and books. More information on each scholarship can be found by clicking the button below.
