One of the new Microsoft Surfaces available in the library

The library is happy to announce that we have new tablets and laptops available for longer checkout periods.
In the last proposal cycle, the Student Technology Fee Committee (STFC) awarded the Library $19,615.56 to purchase 15 new Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet, with keyboard, extra power supply, and three years of extended warranty. The STFC also awarded over $6,000 for five new 11” MacBook Air laptops. That brings the total of new laptops available for checkout to 20.  Please note that the Surface Pro 3 tablets are available now; the MacBook Air laptops are awaiting extra power supplies and should be available in a few weeks.
These computers have all the same software as the main library computers (Office, etc.) and are available for student checkout at the front desk of the Snoqualmie Building Learning and Research Commons. The computers can be checked out for up to 72 hours:  this is a change from the previous policy and brings the Tacoma campus in line with the loan periods at the other two campuses.
Computers are loaned with a soft carrying case and extra power supply so that they can be transported to the home or the classroom easily and safely.  Students who want to borrow a Microsoft Surface Pen will need to ask at the desk for that to be checked out separately from the main tablet.
Students are responsible for lost, stolen, or broken computers just as they would be responsible if they lost a book.  So, we recommend that you take extra care of these computers, as the fines could be quite steep - up to $1,350.
These purchases were made possible by the $40 Student Tech Fee that students pay as part of their quarterly tuition. This money is used to provide funds for the improvement of technology used by students; the funds are allocated by the STFC.
