Moving the field forward: student paper award for future-tech research at 2018 HICSS

The Center for Business Analytics (CBA) at Milgard School of Business, International Society of Service Innovation Professionals (ISSIP), and International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) announce the 2018 “Move the Field Forward Best Paper Award” at the Hawaiian International Conference of System Sciences.

This award is intended to recognize exceptional research methods displayed by students and professionals, with the objective of better understanding intelligent (smart/wise) service systems.

The “Move the Field Forward Best Paper Award”, may be given to as many as five candidates that best demonstrate exceptional research and understanding of intelligent service systems, with a chance to receive up to a $1000 award check and certificate. Awards will be given during the conference on January 3-6, 2018 at the HICSS 51, Big Island, Hawaii.

ISSIP, IBM and CBA have collaborated to promote and disseminate research and applications among students and professionals interested in theory, methodologies, and applications in the overall understanding of intelligent service systems. These systems include but are not limited to areas such as cognitive, wisdom, cloud, fog computing, business analytics, big data, and digital transformation.

The “Move the Field Forward Best Paper Award” aims to encourage a cultural shift through the collaboration of students and industry practitioners. Candidates that are willing to take the initiative to apply research prowess and innovative thinking are ones that will promote the intelligent service systems field in growing substantially.

  • The CBA is core purpose is to inspire innovation through the strategic use of data, analytics, design and service thinking, and smart machines.
  • HICSS is the longest standing scientific conference in the information systems and technology field. Since 1968, the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS) has been known worldwide as the longest-standing working scientific conferences in Information Technology Management. Recent research shows HICSS ranked second in citation ranking among 18 Information Systems (IS) conferences, ranked third in value to the MIS field among 13 Management Information Systems (MIS) conferences, and ranked second in conference rating among 11 IS conferences.
