In 2018, The Center for Business Analytics (CBA) at Milgard School of Business, International Society of Service Innovation Professionals (ISSIP), and International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) partnered to promote and disperse research among students and professionals with the objective of understanding intelligent service systems.

As a result of this collaboration the “Move the Field Forward Best Paper Award” was given at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS). It recognized exceptional research methods displayed by students and professionals within areas such as cognitive, wisdom, cloud, fog computing, business analytics, big data, and digital transformation.

Nominations were collected by November 15, 2017, 24:00 PST for the HICSS 2018 Conference. The top 5 research papers (out of 32 nominations) received certificates and awards on Saturday, January 6, 2018 during the HICSS celebration of the 51st award ceremony.

On the 51st anniversary of the HICSS awards, Milgard School of Business faculty had the pleasure to witness exceptional groups of students and professionals displaying their abilities to innovate and explore new perspectives of intelligent service systems. The ideas that have been put forth by these groups are ones that will aid the field of intelligent service systems moving forward. The Center of Business Analytics is excited to participate in the next award ceremony, where we hope to see new groups of individuals display their research excellence and encourage innovation in the field of smart service systems.

The names of the winning groups, runner-ups, nominees, and the award committee are as listed below:
