Preparing for Internship and Job Fairs

Main page content

Having trouble finding internship opportunities? Looking for ways to expand your field of knowledge in the business world? Then the Milgard Success Center resources are for you. Job fairs are a great way for students to find internship opportunities and network with a wide range of employers and other business students. This year’s bob fair on February 7, 2020, had more than 30 employers from organizations like Brown and Brown insurance, Northwestern Mutual, Seattle Mariners and many more. Even if you aren’t interested in applying to most of the companies attending, it is still a great way to network. You are able to network just by introducing yourself to the employers, discussing your career goals, asking great questions, and handing out your resumes.

Whether you are an accounting, finance or marketing major, it is a great opportunity to network with people from different business fields because you never know what else is out there for you. Ways you can make a great impression on employers is by researching the organizations beforehand. This allows more time to ask specific questions about their company culture or available opportunities to further enhance your professional development at the company. Additionally, prior to the event, make sure to get your resume reviewed by any of the Milgard counselors. You can get your resumes reviewed just by making an appointment with the Success Center or uploading it onto Handshake. Lastly, it is recommended to wear business casual attire to the event. You will look more professional and headshots will be taken as well.

Another way the Milgard Program gets students involved on campus is through Milgard Gold and Platinum. Milgard Gold allows students to accumulate points via the Suitable app just by attending events like the job fair. Once you complete the required activities within the 3 badges, students will receive a Business Professional Certificate. It is an easy and efficient way to build up your resume, while participating in the many other events held on campus!
