UW Tacoma's Giving Garden, established in 2009, will be featured on this year's Community Garden Harvest Tour on Saturday, September 15.
The free event celebrates the harvest and the ever-growing number of community gardens in Tacoma and Pierce County with bus, bike and self-guided tours plus a scavenger hunt. Tour maps can be picked up at King’s Books, 218 St. Helens Ave., Tacoma, or downloaded at www.cityoftacoma.org/communitygardens.
There will also be an opportunity to get together and celebrate as a community at the Hub, 203 Tacoma Ave. S., Tacoma, from 1 to 4 p.m. Community gardeners and Harvest Tour participants are invited to gather for appetizers.
The vegetables grown in the Giving Garden are donated to the Tacoma Rescue Mission and Good Neighbor Cafe. The garden is maintained by student, faculty and staff volunteers.
The Community Garden Harvest Tour is presented by the Tacoma-Pierce County Community Garden Program, a program of the Pierce Conservation District. Program partners also include the City of Tacoma’s TAGRO program, the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, Pierce County Public Works and Utilities, Metro Parks Tacoma, and the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation.
