Lexi Powers hopes UW Tacoma can help her become the person she’s always wanted to be. “I want to be a person who gets her bachelor’s degree and hopefully a master’s,” she said. The 19-year-old wants a career that allows her to help people. She’s leaning toward something in education or psychology but hasn’t decided yet.
An Orting High School graduate, Powers credits a former teacher—Sarah Smith—for helping her succeed. “You can tell she really cares about her students,” said Powers. “She’s one of my role models and I hope to be that for someone else.”
The first-year student is already deeply-immersed in campus life. Powers lives and works at UW Tacoma. “I really like it here, the people are nice and the city is amazing,” she said. Powers chose to go to school here partly out of comfort. “I don’t learn in large groups, I like smaller classrooms so UW Tacoma is perfect for me.”
