Michael J. Phillips, chairman of Russell Investment Group, will deliver the keynote address at UW Tacoma's 18th annual Commencement ceremony Friday, June 13, at 10 a.m. in the Tacoma Dome.

Well-known for his influence in international business circles, Phillips brings a unique global perspective to one of the South Sound's most important businesses. He started his career with Russell in London in 1981, helping to build the company's presence in Europe, and moved to the corporation's headquarters in Tacoma in 1986.

Phillips was recently honored with a presidential appointment to the Business Advisory Council of the Asia-Pacific Economic Corporation, an organization that seeks to promote trade and investment in the Pacific Rim region.

In 2007, Russell was ranked number 11 on Forbes Magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For in America."

Phillips was selected as the Commencement speaker by a committee of students, staff and faculty, based on suggestions from the UW Tacoma community.

Nearly 900 students will graduate from UW Tacoma as part of the Class of 2008.
