The BSN program admits students to the major in summer and autumn quarters only. Full-time students must begin summer quarter. Part-time students begin in summer or autumn. Be certain to apply for the correct quarter because a change may necessitate a new application and fee.

Applicants to the UW Tacoma School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership BSN program must meet the following requirements: 



Required Prior to Admission

Intermediate Algebra

Taken in either in high school or college


Foreign language

Two years of the same language in high school or completion of college-level 102 (students whose native language is not English may be exempt from this requirement)



15 credits
Must consist of 5 credits of English composition**; an additional 10 writing-intensive credits are met through required Nursing coursework at UW Tacoma

Visual, Literary and Performing Arts

May be fulfilled through coursework at UW Tacoma


Individuals and Societies
(social sciences)

May be fulfilled through coursework at UW Tacoma


General or Inorganic Chemistry

Anatomy and Physiology

10 credits (Two course sequence)



3-5 credits


Advanced Mathematics

5 credits
May be petitioned upon completion of Statistics

UW Tacoma School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership Approved Statistics Course
May be taken at UW Tacoma

Full-time students complete prior to beginning of Autumn Quarter
Part-time students complete prior to Spring Quarter of first year

*Students enrolled in the last year of an associate degree in nursing program or those who have not yet taken the NCLEX may apply for provisional BSN admission prior to RN licensure.

**Applicants whose first language is not English or who completed primary and secondary education outside of the U.S. will need to fulfill the English language proficiency requirement. For more information click on the Admission's website link here.
