Peer Success Mentors

The Peer Success Mentors are first-generation student leaders who will assist their first-gen UW Tacoma peer students in using effective learning techniques to improve study skills and gain confidence in their academic abilities.  

The Peer Success Mentors can: 

  • offer  one-on-one or group coaching to help other first gen students discuss study habits, set academic goals and develop effective learning strategies 

  • serve as motivational partners 

  • provide information about other resources on campus 

The Peer Success Mentors can’t: 

  • provide tutoring 

  • provide academic advising 

  • provide instruction 

Benefits for peer mentors 

  • Provide one-on-one or group coaching to help other first gen students discuss study habits, set academic goals and develop effective learning strategies.  

  • Receive a student salary of $ 1,620. 00 per quarter (10 hours per week)  

  • Receive training in mentoring models, learning tools and techniques, and professional development opportunities
